Resource allocation

Good morning. Can you allocate a Group as a resource to a task, rather than the Resource Name? I have a group of 50 people who will all be allocated to some tasks as a group, e.g. meetings, and some individual tasks. In order to allocate their time correctly, I do not want to make the group a seperate resource in addition to the individuals in that group, as I will then be counting their time twice.

RE: Resource allocation

Hi Nicola

Thank you for your question. In MS Project 2007 we can only assign individual resources rather than a team. Project Server does allow assigning teams to tasks.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Ms project tip:

Keep constraining dates to a minimum

As far as possible avoid fixing the dates of your tasks. For example try to steer of clear dragging task bars in the Gantt chart to move them on the timeline or entering dates directly into the Start / Finish fields.

Date constraints such as these limit Microsoft Project's ability to automatically adjust your project whenever you add, remove or modify the duration of your tasks. Instead use the logic in your task dependencies that link your tasks to enable Project to calculate the start and finish dates for you.
