Cross Referencing

When inserting a cross reference, how do I ensure the font and text size matches the text it is being inserted into?

RE: Cross Referencing

Hi Jacqueline

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

When cross referencing items in your document, the cross reference dialogue box provides a drop down list of different reference types i.e headings, bookmarks, figures etc, if the cross reference is being created by choosing one of these items the default cross reference font should match the default document font when inserted. Is this the method you're using?

If the cross reference is being created in any other way, it may also copy the font of the cross referenced text.

RE: Cross Referencing

Hi Nafeesa,
I am using the cross reference dialogue box and selecting Header and then the reference I want to cross reference.
The main body of the document is in Arial Narrow 12.5 yet the cross reference appears in Calibri 12. The actual heading in the main body of the text is in Cambria 13 so it is not as if the cross reference is simply copying the original header font and style.

Any suggestions (other than converting whole body text Calibri 12!)?
Thanks in advance
Jacqueline

RE: Cross Referencing

Hi Jacqueline

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I've been out of the office for a few weeks.

If the problem is still persisting, the best way for us to resolve this is for you to send me a sample of the document you are using (if possible) to info, for the attention of myself. I can then have a look into your document settings to possibly identify any solutions from that side.

RE: Cross Referencing

Hi Jacqueline,

Thankyou for sending the extract through, I've had a good look through it & can see the issue you're facing.

The default for word is to apply the font style applied to your headings to the cross-referenced text. There are a couple of ways of getting around this, either change the font style of your headings from Cambria to Arial Narrow and then select the entire document (Ctrl+A) and update fields (right-click) or a slightly more complicated way would be to manipulate the field code of the cross references. To do this....

- Press Alt + F9 (to display the field codes, so that word can see REF in the fields.)

- Press Ctrl + H (opens the Replace dialogue box.)

- In the Find What box type ^19 REF (this finds all REF field codes)

- Click into the Replace With box

- Click the 'Format' button at the bottom of the dialogue box, selecting Font and Arial Narrow + size

- Click Replace All

- Press Alt +F9 (toggle the display back to field results)

- This should now present all cross references in the correct font.

- If there are still any discrepencies, Click Ctrl+A and then F9 to update field.

This should rectify the problem, if it is still persisting, it may well be an issue with the coding of the application, in which case a visual basic programmer would be needed to solve the issue.

I hope this helps & apologies in the delay once again.
