i have a created a list on a work book but am finding it hard to use, and i want to get rid of it but when i click on data, list, the "unlink" list button is not available to me. can you please help?

Have you tried going to Tools - Options - Custom lists and seeing if your list shows in the left window - then you should be able to select and delete it.

Hi Amanda i did try that, thanks but still no luck, it still has the blue lines / box around the area and the drop down list, it is rather annoying dont know why it wont disappear

If the area has a blue line around it could be that:

- it is a named range that is being used in a formula. If you go to Insert - Name - Define, is the area that is highlighted in blue a named range?

- it is something to do with a filter. Is the AutoFilter turned on? In which case you can go to Data - Filter - AutoFilter to turn it off.

Give these a go and let me know how you get on - I would say by the sounds of things that it would more likely be the second of the above suggestions that applies in this case.

i have taken off the auto filter but the blue box still remains, i have looked on the name - range etc but not to sure as it is not in the box that it would be if it had been added if that makes sense

I've had a look, if you click in one of the ranges with the blue around the edge, the List toolbar should come up then go to List on the toolbar and choose Convert to Range and click Yes, then the blue is removed. You need to do this for both ranges of cells.
