when doing a survey with responses which are coded e.g. 1=yes, 2=no, 3=maybe, I want to put all this information into charts/graphs. Could you give me any help with this?
Also, is excel capable of cross tabbing responses from surveys?

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your question.

I assume you would want each question and the count of yes's, no's and maybe's for each question?

You could use a CountIf function:

=countif(Range of cells with the numbers in,criteria such as 1)

e.g. =countif(a6:f16,1)

This will count how many times 1 was entered into that cell range.

Is your data arranged in columns with column headings? If so you could create a Pivot Table.

Excel tip:

Select only cell that contain text to lock format

For selecting cells that only contain Text in Excel

By selecting cells that only contain text, you can delete, fill or protect cells of this type.

Use short cut to Go to box (F5) or Edit, Go to
In the dialog box, click special button & select Constants and only check text or any other desired type.

Click OK.

And text cells will all be highlighted for you to apply format. Please note only works on one sheet at a time.
