Making an image transparent in powerpoint 2010

hiya

im trying to set the transparency on an image in 2010 however im struggling.

if its an image thats been inserted into an autoshape (so its the fill) then its fine i can change transparency on the fill just as in 2003. However if its an image directly inserted into the presentation then i seem not to be able to do this, ive seen you can use the picture effects (effect 8) but thats too light - i want to be able to actually phisically change the transparency myself?

thanks
jenny

Hello Jenny,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Word Advanced course with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding changing the transparency of an inserted image in PowerPoint 2010.

When doing this in 2003 you would use a washout which produces a brightness setting of 85% and a contrast setting of 15%. You can adjust these settings to vary the transparency according to your requirements.

In 2010 from the format ribbon select the Recolor button and if you choose the button on the left of the bottom row you will find that the result is very similar to what you will achieve in 2003. If you then wish to adjust the settings, you can then go to the Corrections button and make whatever changes you feel are necessary.

Try this out!

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

hiya

thanks for your reply.

i actually want the image to be transparent so its see-through. is the only way to do this to insert the image into a shape and do it from there?

Hello Jenny,

If you want the image to be see-through, the best way is to insert the image into a shape then make it transparent as you already suspected. This shouldn't pose any problems since you can make the shape any size.

RE: making an image transparent in powerpoint 2010

Hi

Re the email chain above, how do you "insert an image into a shape"?

I have a picture of a telephone I'd like to use. The background is just white, but the image is complicated and the "remove background" tool doesn't seem to be working it out.

Thanks

Michael.

In order to make it transparent (i.e. see-through),
follow the steps:

1.Insert>Shapes>Rectangle
Draw a rectangle of the size of the image

2.right-click on the rectangle>Format Picture

3.From the wizard window, select "Fill" on the left side and "Picture or texture fill" from the right side

4. Insert from: File
Select the image from your computer

5. right below, you'll find the Transparency in the same wizard box
