Hi

This is a basic question but I am struggling to find the answer. If I write a letter and type in the recipient's address at the top, when I hit return it leaves a whole line space in between. How do I type an address so that each line in on the consequtive line ie without a space in-between. (I guess Word thinks I am choosing a new paragraph as opposed to a new line). I fudge it by using the tab key but I don't think this works very well! (Note it doesn't work by highlighting text and selecting the 'No spacing" option)

Hello Tina,

Thank you for your question regarding spacing problems you are experiencing with Word.

Word 2007 uses the Normal template for all new documents. The template uses the following settings:

Font: (Default) +Body, Left, Line spacing: Multiple 1.15 li, Space After: 10 pt, Widow/Orphan control, Style: Quick Style

As you can see, whenever you enter text then press enter the line spacing is 1.15 lines and also adds a 10pt space after. Thus it appears as if an extra paragraph line has been added.

You can fix this by editing the Normal template changing the spacing to single and the space after to zero. You can perform this change on the Home ribbon from the Styles group. Locate the Normal style then right-click and choose Modify. Click Format on the bottom left hand corner and select Paragraph...

In the Spacing section make the changes I have suggested above and click OK. The next step is an important one. Make sure you select the option that says 'New documents based on this template' then click OK. Now whenever you open Word the new document template will be as you have modified it.
