Creating a database for online use

I am just starting out in the world of Access.

My final aim however is to create a database that can be polpulated from different offices around the world.

Is there any advice to start me off on the right foot?

RE: Creating a database for online use

Hi Colin

As you are using Access 2003 you might want to investigate using Access Pages. It allows users to populate a database remotely.

However Access Pages has been discontinued in more recent versions of Access replaced by the use of Sharepoint.

I will get back to you if I have further suggestions but in the mean time you could ask in your IT department whether either Pages or Sharepoint has been used for remote updating.

RE: Creating a database for online use

Hi Doug

Thanks for the answer.

Not sure I mentioned I was using 2003. I have had mine upgraded to 2007 as that is what I did the training course with.

I will look into sharepoint however, so I think you answered my question none the less.

Thanks

Access tip:

Random sampling

Data is th key to a good database, therefore checking is essential.

A good way of checking data is by random sampling. You can do this in a query, by typing the follow:
1) In the Field box create a RandonID field eg. Randon Id: Rnd(fieldname])

2) sort the field
3)Right click and chage the properties for To value to be the number of randon records you want to see.

4) Change the set to Show row for Randon ID to be False, add all the other fields you want to see and the run the query.
