How do i change the axis scale in excel to show 0 - 1,600?

Hi Christopher

Thank you for your question. Click on your chart and from the Chart Tools ribbon click on the Layout tab then choose Axes from the Axes group. Choose either the Primary Horizontal or Primary Vertical axis menu items. Either choice will take you to a menu of pre-set axis formats. If none of those are what you are looking for click the last item in the menu More ...(Vertical/Horizontal)... Axis Options.

From here the Axis Options tab lets you specify the Min and Max and Unit values. The remaining tabs let you adjust the axis formatting further.

Thanks for this it has helped a lot but to get my numbers 0 - 1,600 seems not to be working.

Hello Christopher,

My first question to you is:

What is the maximum value of the chart data?

Presumably it is less than 1600? Are you saying that the only numbers you want to see in the vertical axis is 0 and 1600 and not all the numbers inbetween? If this is the case, then click the Axes button, select the Primary Vertical Axis and then select More Primary Vertical Axis Options... In the Axis Options section make sure that you select the Fixed radio button for Maximum and enter 1600. Then for the Major Unit select the Fixed radio button and again enter 1600. Close the dialogue box and now you will see 0 - 1600 on the vertical axis of the chart.

Sorting data stored in rows

Primarily Excel is set up to sort data that is stored in columns rather than rows.

It is possible to get Excel to sort data stored in rows however.

Click in the row you want to sort, or select the cells in the rows you wish to sort.

Go to Data - Sort, then go to the Options button in the bottom left corner of the Sort dialogue box.
