Borders of individual cells

How do you add / change the borders of individual cells - having already set up a table (not change the colour - but change the width etc)

RE: Borders of individual cells

Hi Sophie

To change the width of table cells within Adobe Dreamweaver, you have 2 options. This first is, if you are in design view within dreamweaver 8 all you need to do is hover you mouse over the table border, then click your left mouse and drag the table cell to the width that you want it. The second option is, if you are within the coder view in dreamweaver the you will find a <table> tag and then nested <tr> and <td> tags within that. All you will need to do is add the property width="200px" within the <td> tag. ie <td width="200px".

Remember px stands for pixels, you could use a % instead if you prefer.

Hope this helps
David

RE: Borders of individual cells

Sophie,

In addition to changing the width, you can use CSS to change border properties.

The code for the first cell might be:

<td style="border: 5px solid red">Data here</td>

The code for the second cell might be:
<td style="border-top: 1px dotted green; border-bottom: 3px solid blue;">Data here</td>

This way, you can control each border side, including thickness, type of line, and colour.

Regards, Rich

Dreamweaver tip:

Xhtml vs html

When using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format. One of the main advantages of this is that it makes the site that you build much more compatible with the range of different web browsers that exist.

Now Is The Time For The Quick Access Toolbar

Being, by nature, creatures of habit it can take time to get used to new routines and sequences. Even something as simple as moving your mouse to the other side of the keyboard can cause confusion as we absent mindedly reach for the elusive control. If this sounds familiar and you haven’t yet utilised the Quick Access Toolbar, get ready to meet your new best friend.
