Searching for an amended Word document saved in My Documents as

I saved an email in My Documents with a Word document attached. After almost completing 4 hours of amending the document I had to leave my laptop for about 1 hour. When I returned the document was no longer on the screen or on the toolbar at the foot of the screen. I looked in the saved document which showed the unamended version. I conducted a search but the document was not found. I had pressed Ctrl/S before leaving my laptop. My laptop was attached to my employer's (CSCI) broadband connection at the time. I now attach the Word document as a separate file in My Documents but was there anything else I could have done to retrieve the document.

With thanks, Lawrie

RE: searching for an amended Word document saved in My Documents

Hi Lawrie

Firslty it is always best to download the attached file and save that to your computer. THen open the downloaded document to edit it. As far as searching for the document, check the recyle bin just incase it is in there. Then go to the start menu and select search, search all drives for the document. If the search does not find the document, then there is no easy way of recoving the document.

I would just make sure that in the future that you download the attachment seperately, and then work off the downloaded version. Also make sure that you save on a regular basis.

Hope this helps

David

Word tip:

What is the Ribbon used for in Word 2010

In Word 2010, the Ribbon cleverly replaces the drop down menus and toolbars from previous versions of Word. So it allows easy and more visible
access to options which were previously hidden in various menus.

The ribbon is made up of: Tabs, Groups and Commands. When you select a tab you
will see that the ribbon will change to show groups and commands which are relevant to the activity covered by that tab.
