Scheduling tasks

I have set a task that must start on a specific date.

I have a number of tasks preceding the above task,

How do i make the preceding tasks schedule according to the task which i have set a constraint to/

I ham having trouble doing the above as the preceding tasks do not move and they have no constraints on them.

RE: scheduling tasks

Hi Waqar

Thanks for your question.

Project normally links tasks in a standard waterfall flow with 'Finish to Start' relationships between tasks.

If you want a task to start on a specific day then set a constraint. For example a dinner event.
Double click the task
Choose Advanced tab
Select the Constraint type Must start on.
Enter the start date for the event and press OK.

To make the other tasks finish on that specific event date create Start to Finish relationships for the other tasks.
Suppose the dinner event has an Id of 4.
Go to the the Predecessors column in the Gantt Chart and type 4SF for each task. (Can copy and paste or use the autofill handle).

Make sure all the tasks are set to Auto schedule.

I hope that helps. There are other approaches for example setting constraints to Finish Finish. That will work if the event is a milestone.
