Printing websites

When I try to print out pages from the website, it prints only half the page in landscape.

What do I need to do to the measurements of the cells on the page to make them automatically fit to the size of a screen and for printing?

Cheers!

RE: Printing websites

Hi Will

I think the best method for you would be to create a seperate printable version of the page. So you would just add a hyperlink pionting to the printable version.

To create the printable version you need to set you web page width to 500 pixels and not any bigger. If you do this it may be an idea to strip out any images or graphics that are not really needed for printing.

Also if you wanted to instead of redirecting the user to a page to print you could just use the following piece of code, the peice of code itself would need to be contained in the head tags.

<LINK REL=alternate MEDIA=print
HREF="http://www.yourpage.com">;

I have not used the link method above myself before, but I thought it might be worth it so you do not have to waste the time of people who visit your website.

hope this helps

David

RE: Printing websites

A user-friendly way to do this is to link to a separate 'print' CSS file, as well as a 'screen' CSS file. This way, you use CSS to control the way elements appear on the page or screen.

For example, you may have big sidebar section on every page, but not want this to appear every time someone prints a page from your web site. You use CSS code display: none; when defining the sidebar class in the 'print' CSS file.
