Sorting lists of words

Is it possible to sort a list of words in the way you can sort numbers?

RE: Sorting lists of words

Hi Chris

Thanks for your question.

The answer is yes, you can sort text.

You need to make sure that the column you want to sort by has a heading at the top, and format the heading in bold so Excel recognises it as a heading and not an item in the list.

Then select a cell that contains a piece of text in that column and click either the Sort Ascending or Sort Descending button on the standard toolbar (they have the letters A and Z on them).

Amanda

Excel tip:

Quickly select a block of data

To quickly select a block of data make sure your active cell is somewhere whithin the block of data and then press Ctrl+* or Ctrl+Shift+8.
