Geographic locations and logistics

I have set up a database with records for each site visit (including address)and have a field for region to help operations staff group sites. However I am on my third revision of defining regions, and sites on borders between regions may not get placed in the best 'bundle' so started to think about another field to indicate next nearest region.

Is there an add on facility to effectively give the access database a lookup, or alternatively a purpose made logistics programme which will somehow take in data from our database, and preferably not too expensive (hundreds preferred to thousands)?

RE: Geographic locations and logistics

Hi Mark

I believe you are after an application to add on to your database so that it will perform an address lookup and find the next closest site. If this is what you are looking for, then you basically want a system like Argos or B&Q on their website to find the closest store to a given address. I do not personally know how much a system such as this costs, but I do know that a company called QAS specialise in this sort of program.

Thier web address is : www.qas.co.uk

Hope this helps

David

RE: Geographic locations and logistics

QAS say they support any database. My question was about what you know of what is available so solved, and thank you very much.

Access tip:

How To Find All Overdue Accounts?

To find overdue accounts create a filter that compares today's date with the Invoice Date in the table. To do this:

1. Open the Query in Design View
2. Select the field for the filter and in the criteria row enter:

<Date()

This filter returns records where the Invoice Date is before today's date.

This filter can be manipulated if, for instance, Invoices are due 15 days after the Invoice Date. For this the filter would be:

<Date()-15

This filter returns records where the Invoice Date is 15 days before today's date.

forum postI have a form in an access database which often needss searching to see if records have been previously entered. I have been using the Find function but I would like it to filter the cases so that the relevant ones can be displayed.

I know that you can..
