Hi there,

I'm in the process of creating an Oracle linked database which has about 48 tables. All the tables have been set up and I'm now working on forms... A colleague has recommended that I restrict my forms to cover one table at a time as including multiple tables could lead to problems (unspecified)... Is this your view too? It was my understanding that you can join tables in queries and then generate forms from them.

My database will capture Marine monitoring data at the project/program/series/platform/instrument/geographic, and other levels....

I have not used Oracle myself, but I do have a lot of experience with IBM DB2. I think you should be OK using forms across multiple tables. I do not know of any problems using from across multiple tables in Oracle.

I assume that you are creating the forms for data input. If this is the case I do not see why you would need to do a query. Queries of for data extraction. If you are doing an sql insert across multiple tables it would look something like:
insert table1.name, table1.a, table1.b, table2.name, table2.a, table2.b into table 1, table 2
Then if needed you can add on a where clause.

I suggest that you get a good grasp of what you are doing before you attempt it. Access is a very different database application compared to Oracle and implementing things learnt in access will probably not work with Oracle.

Access tip:

Convert A Form Into A Report

If there is a form that you want to to save as a report:

1. Open that form in Design View
2. Select File and Save As
3. In the Save As Dialog box Select Report

The system creates a report based on the form.
