Formatting

How can I highlight a value in a cell that exceeds a set deviation level? For instance, a fund returns 10% over a week while its benchmark retuns 16%. A deviation of more than 5% should be highlighted in red?
thanks
Ali

RE: Formatting

Hi Ali

Use Conditional Formatting. Select the cells you want to highlight, go to the Format menu and choose Conditional Formatting. Set your criteria, click the FORMAT button and choose the highlight options you need. Click OK to activate.

Cheers!

Alan

Excel tip:

Quickly create a list of numbers

The fill handle in Excel has many uses. If a number is typed into a cell and then the fill handle is used, the number will be copied from one cell to the next.

If you wish to create a list of numbers that increment by one at a time, hold down Ctrl in conjunction with using the fill handle - this should give you a series of numbers (e.g. 1, 2, 3 etc) rather than copying a single number.
