Look Up and Compare Data In A Column

Which function do you use to look up a range of entries and determine whether the same text / number appears in that range and identify how many times it appears?

RE: Look Up and Compare Data In A Column

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for your question. You would be requiring the COUNTIF Function with the following arguements: =COUNTIF(Range,Criteria)

eg Range A2:A10 contains repeating values for regions in a transaction list, you want to know how many purchases in North region.

=COUNTIF(A2:A10,"North")

Hope this helps

Regards

Excel tip:

Wrapping Text in a Cell in an Excel 2010 Workbook

When you have a lot of text you want to put in a particular cell but you can't decrease the font size to fit because the text will then become ineligible, then manually wrap the text in a cell by simply pressing ALT+ENTER.
