Try Tools > Security > set Database password

This will give protection to the entire database when you open it. If you have the password, you can change data, if not, then no access to the database at all.

Hi Richard
Thank you for your reply, if I follow the instructions you have advised I am right that other users will not be able to open the database. If so that is not what I want to achieve I want all users in the office to be able to view the database but onoy one or two users able to edit data. Please confirm best way to achieve this.

Thanks
Sue

You would need to look into USER LEVEL SECURITY.
I will warn you upfront, that it is indepth and a bit complex. If you or any colleagues understand User Level permissions using microsoft windows servers, then the job will be easier.

Firstly I suggest that you make a copy of your database, and test your security on that database. You may find that you end up locking yourself out completely, and need to start again. If this happens, delete the database file completely (even from the recycle bin), and general accesss will be restored to ACCESS).

The first place to start is to look in the HELP section for "user level security". Read through all the details, and then run the wizard.

In this way, you will be able to assign specific permissions for specific users and groups on specific objects. It takes some planning and patience.

That will get you pointed in the right direction. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Richard
