Dreamweaver 8 Introduction course

On the website I am working on there are 'hotpsot' links to other pages. I seem to be able to create a new one by using the tool bar at the bottom of the page (or copying an existing one) , but I can't label it, so consequently it doesn't show on the web screen when I F12. How do I do this?

Labelling hotspots - alt tag?

by - trainer Rich platinum contributer[744 posts] (2007 Jan 17 Wed, 12:19) Edited on 2007 Jan 17 Wed, 12:20 replyReply

Hi Elaine,

When you say 'I can't label it', what do you mean exactly? The only 'label' i can think of is the ALT parameter for the hotspot. To find this, select the hotspot you wish to label, then look at the Properties Panel and find the ALT textbox. Here's where you'd type a label.

Note this label doesn't always show in a browser. In IE, if you hover over the hotspot, a 'tooltip' with the ALT label should appear. This doesn't usually happen in Firefox browser though, unless you add a TITLE parameter in your HTML code.

eg.
<area shape="rect" coords="187,207,437,389" href="#" alt="shows in IE" title="shows in firefox">

Also, try testing the page by saving and fully uploading to your server, instead of using F12. There might be a caching issue on your computer.

If this doesn't resolve your question, please reply with more detail so I can help.

Thanks, Rich
