Queries

When I enter " " around a text word to have the query only display that information, I receive a message that the criteria does not match. I noticed in the design page that I had this listed as a number but it is text. I can't change it now as there are many relationships to many tables. So, how can I get this to be accepted and run the query?

RE: Queries

Hi Margaret:

If the field is shown as a Number data type in Table Design view, then it will only accept numeric data, not text data.

Thus, in a Query Criteria you have to enter a numeric value. A number enclosed in quotes - "123" - will not work, you will get a Data Type Mismatch Error message. You need to enter the number without the quotes.

Regards,

Tony

RE: Queries

Thanks Tony, When I enter it with no quotes, Access adds the quotes then gives me the same error. M

RE: Queries

Hi Margaret, perhaps you could post your 'criteria' line so that we can have a quick look and see if there is anything that could be 'tweaked' to help with your problem, look forward to hearing from you, regards Pete

RE: Queries

Hi,
Thanks Pete but this is confidential work as I am the data analyst in a Quality Management Department. I think I solved the problem and will let you know if not. Thanks again, Margaret

Access tip:

Design View in Relationship window

Your in the Relationship window and changes are required to be made to a Table's design.

Rather than exiting the Relationship window, if you perform a right-mouse click on the table, it opens that table up in Design view
