RE: Functions

Dear Anne

Thank you for attending Excel Intermediate training with us.

Sometimes typing the Functions is easier and quicker than using the Paste Function dialog box.

Please note that structure of most of the statistical functions such as Average, MIN, MAX , COUNT, COUNTA and also SUM is as follows:

=Function Name(Cell Reference)

e.g.
=SUM(B3:B11)
=Min(B3:B11)
=Max(B3:B11)
=Average(B3:B11)
and so on...

Please note that:
- There is no space at all anywhere in the function.
- When you type the Function name it is not case sensitive so you can use all lower care or upper case.
- Min and Max are abbreviated but Average is NOT!!
- If the cells that you are performing the calculation on are together then use the :(Colon) as mentioned above. However if they are not together then please use the , (Comma) to separate them!!

Hope this helps

Kindest Regards

Excel tip:

Change the Value of a Constant

When using a named constant in a worksheet, you may wish to change the value of that constant.

From the 'Insert' menu, select 'Name', then select 'Define'.

In the 'Define Name' dialog box, select the constant that you want to change.
Change the value in the 'Refers To' box.
Click OK.

Wherever that named constant has been used it will now use its new value.
