I want to create an animation in excel based on an advent calendar. I have created a routine to run that I want to be called when the user clicks on a "door" in the calendar. the proceedure then runs and shows the result in the space where the door has opened. (it's the same proceedure each time)

Was thinking I could create a user form with 24 buttons as doors but can i then change the background of the form to look like an advent calendar? and can i get the button (door) to be replaced with the result each time?

Or is it something i could do in paintshop or something like that?

Thanks

Jen

Hi Jennifer

If you want to use a form in Excel with buttons then that would work. You would need to use paintshop to cut out the images for the buttons. You could even open up a new form with the image in, instead of replacing the button itself.

If you wanted to do it in something other than Excel, then I would suggest using Adobe Flash. This way you can actually have animations. If you have looked at any online advent calenders, you will find that they have been built using Flash.

Hope this helps
David

Thanks David

I had a look for some online calendars but couldn't find any - can you send me a link?

Jennifer,

This ones not to Christmas based but worth a look
Advent 1

The following link is quite a good one and sound like it is what you are after
Advent 2

Currently there don't seem to be too many Flash based advent calenders around. I think when we move in to December then you will find plenty more. MSN generally do a good one, but that not released until very close to Christmas.

I hope you find these useful
David

Excel tip:

Sorting List Subtotals

If you find that you would prefer to show the items in a subtotalled list in a different order, eg ascending rather than descending, you can sort your list. To sort a subtotalled list, hide the detail rows and then sort the subtotal rows. When you sort a subtotalled list, the hidden detail rows are automatically moved with the subtotal rows.
IMPORTANT: If you do not hide the details rows before sorting a subtotalled list, your subtotals will be removed and all of the rows in your list will be reordered.
