Hi - how do I compress an image to e-mail it. I can see that I can compress an image by opening it in picture manager and then compressing it. However I just want to ensure that I am sending images in a low res format over e-mail without particularly saving hi res and low res images on our server!

Many thanks

Melissa

Hi Melissa,

A popular program I've come across is http://www.irfanview.com which is free to download and allows you to create low-res copies of any image. It allows you to resize multiple images. This program may be similar to picture manager.

To 'ensure' you are sending a low-res format, have a look at the attachment size when you are composing the e-mail. It should tell you the file size, in which case you can differentiate from hi/low res file.

Remember to always save new low-res versions of your images and not to overwrite the hi-res version, otherwise you may lose the hi-res copy! You may need to copy the hi-res versions to your server for a little while, until they have been converted, but then you can delete them from the server.

I hope this answers your question, and you enjoyed your courses in November.

Regards, Rich

Hi Melissa

You can also do this using any Photographic editing software for example Macromeadia Photoshop. When saving the image, select save for web and select the level of compression.

Hope this helps

David
