Importing files into Excel

I have a huge 9mb DAT file that I have saved as a .txt document and want to open it into excel. When I try to do this a message comes up to say the file is not completely loaded becasue there are more than 65536 rows of data. How can I open the whole document or split the data into seperate tabs to fit it in?

Hi Tim

Excel can support up to 65,536 rows or records. If you have more records than that you will need to split your data into chunks that are smaller than this limit before importing. I'm not aware of an automatic method of doing this. Alternatively you may wish to consider using a database to store your information (e.g. Access)

Excel tip:

Formula for last day of month

In some cases it is necessary to find the last day of a month for a given date. If you use the following formula, you can achieve this, ie; if you have a column of dates, use this formula to find the end of month for each day by using the fill handle. The formula is as follows, and assumes in this example that the first date in question is in cell C5, in any other cell type; =DATE(YEAR(C5),MONTH(C5)+1,1)-1
