I'm in the process of creating a database and I need some help on how to setup role for users. For example I might want some users to have a read-only access and others to be able to edit. Is this possible? and if yes how do I achieve this?

I also need multi-users to be able to access the database for editing or read-only purposes? Is this possible? and if yes how do I achieve this?

Kind regards and thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Access course with BEST STL.

Thank you for your question regarding setting up security roles for users.

The subject of User level security is covered in our advanced course. The short answer to your question is yes, you can setup user specific permissions, and it required a good knowledge of basic security in Ms Access, or the Windows file security system.

If you are new to these subjects the learning curve can be very steep, and there is a high chance that you will lock yourself out of using your database.
If you decide to implement this by yourself, I highly recommend that you make a copy of your database, and test on that. If you lock youself out, you will not be able to get back to your data.

My first suggestion is that you read through "USER LEVEL SECURITY" in the Help section.

Once you have done that, then decide what security you want to implement. I would suggest having someone who is familiar with the subject with you to guide the process, otherwise it is hit and miss. We do offer this type of service.

If you are interested, please feel free to discuss your requirements with our enquiries team on main number.

I hope this addresses your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.
Regards,

Richard
