Samantha has attended:
Excel Intermediate course

Accessing different work books/ locked files

How do you open and use a document that has been locked by another user so that you can change data because you are working fom the same Excel spreadsheet?

RE: Accessing different work books/ locked files

Hiya Samantha

Hope you are ok today

with regards to your troubles this depends on the way this is locked as there are two ways, 1 if you try to open the file and a message comes up tell you its locked by Mr Smith, and the 2nd one is when you try to open the file and it asks you for a password

If you get the first error saying it this file is in use then either get them to close it or you will have to try again later

If you get a password option then unless you get the person password with their permission then also unfortunatly you cant open and use that file

You may be aware that excel files can be shared so that more than one person can use it at the same time

Contact you IT department on how to do this that may help

hope this is useful
