What is Windows?Microsoft Windows is a range of closed source proprietary commercial operating environments for personal computers and servers. The range was first introduced by Microsoft in 1985 and eventually has come to dominate the world personal computer market. All recent versions of Windows are fully-fledged operating systems. The Windows line includes Windows 3.x, Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT. The most recent version, Windows XP, is installed on more than 50% of all computers in the world. The next generation, code-named Windows Longhorn, is expected to be released early 2007, and be substantially more secure than existing systems.
