Case Study

Learning solution:
SharePoint (User)

Industry:
Professional services

Company Profile

The client is an architecture and urban planning practice based in London with accolades including Architect of the Year in the Building Design Awards and a multiple winner of RIBA Awards

Business Requirement

The client expressed their wish to have greater use of their existing installation of SharePoint between departments including the viability of a company-wide adoption (200+ users) of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007/2010.

Immediate business gains were identified by having the submissions, brochures, and web teams working more closely through SharePoint.

Solution

An initial scoping session with a STL SharePoint training consultant identified that requirements would be broken down into phases that would be ongoing with periodic reviews.

The current installation had a system health check along with a review of the structure of document storage, arrangement of team & personal calendars, and existing search facilities. Future growth and migration paths to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010 were also considered.

Staff training requirements currently under way:

End user training for department heads covered "Site Owner" training along with some guidance for planning the hierarchy of sites and libraries. Discussions/demonstrations on how InfoPath forms could be integrated with SharePoint were also covered.

For some of the technical administration staff, training on Implementing and Administering Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 was delivered.

Benefits

• More stable and consistent use of SharePoint
• Greater organisational awareness to using SharePoint and a clearer path on how to migrate to SharePoint 2010
• Improved collaboration between teams (submissions, brochures and web teams)
