Resource Pools

We have 61 projects linked to Resource Pool and are concerned it is too great a strain - there have been a couple of instances of crashes/corruption.
I will delink completed projects, but we want to link future projects. Does a simple project with only a few tasks and 1 or 2 resources allocated to it put an equal strain on it as a full fledged multi-task and multi resource project? In knowing that, I can assess whether our future projects are adding to the strain.
Thanks

RE: Resource Pools

Hi Jenny,

Project Files linked to a resource pool corrupt if you rename, over-write or move the file without first removing it from the pool first.

A project with only a few tasks and a few resources will update/calculate faster, than a full fledged project file. The more files you have open, the slower the PC performs.

The strain or speed of refreshing the resources is the same as it counts as 1 connection to the pool. So having 61 small files vs 61 large files doesn't increase the strain. It still has to connect and scan the resource pool to find the resources.

Future projects are probably not adding to the strain, it's just a fragile setup for so many files.

If you would like faster/stable performance as you expand the number of Projects using the pool you may wish to consider Project Server to centralise your resource pool or Project Online.

I hope that helps you with your assessment

Kind regards
