My daughter and I both have same problem on new Vista laptops - both Excel 2003 and 2007.

When using the fill handle to copy formulae into adjacent cells, instead of copying the formulae (i.e. the totals at bottom of columns for instance) it copies the actual figures, not the formulae. This worked fine on my 2003 version on XP desktop but not on Vista laptop.

HP are stumped too at present and Microsoft is sooo..expensive to contact.
Can anyone help please?
thank you

Hi Pat

Thanks for the question, I have checked with my colleagues and they too are unclear why Exel is acting this way.

Have you tried to use the fill handle with the right mouse click? This should then give you some options on what you are copying.

Regards
Jacob

My local pc shop looked at this with 'remote access' and it worked at first. He said it was to do with the laser mouse and to uninstall the Logitech software. It worked at first but now it doesn't.

Ref your suggestion - just tried it but I am not sure which option to select - though I think I tried the likely ones and this does not work either. I am still getting the total for column one in the other columns which is incorrect!

Thank you for your suggestion but the case is still open!
Pat

When you do a standard copy and paste on these cells, do you get the result you want?

HP suggested I uninstall Office 2003 and reinstall. At first the problem was still not resolved, but I think I may have triggered some patches or updates and it is all now working fine.
My daughter has not tried hers yet though on her Compax/Vista/Excel 2007 laptop.

Excel tip:

Do a fast scroll

In big Excel databases with many records, you can move down thousands of rows super-fast as follows: hold down Shift then click on the scrollbar somewhere below the scrollbar handle. This will move you way down the sheet without your having to use the scrollbar up/down arrows or drag on the scrollbar handle.
